The Northern Hawk Owl. A rare sighting just 45 minutes north of Toronto. Primarily a daylight hunter. Can find prey by sound even under a foot of snow! And yes. It does have talons. Just well hidden in this image.

This happens to be one of my fave snowy owl captures. I find the direct eye contact mesmerizing. And the position of her right wing, in mid-flight pose, really shows off her beautiful barred feathers. Feeling the shutter button with numb fingers was not easy!
