Keaton Parks doesn’t light up the stat sheet—but that doesn’t mean he’s not elite. @paulharvey.theoutfield.nyc breaks down why Parks remains the most impactful American midfielder in MLS, even if casual fans overlook him.

Doyle with some info on David Lee's role/thinking inside NYCFC's FO - still hard to parse what is authentic and what is prop, for the reason Doyle notes, but this sounds like it makes sense

(also, as mentioned always on pod, you should be subscribed to Doyle's substack already)

Lots of players doing favors for NYCFC tonight: Messi taking care of 5th place for them, Zaha taking care of his presence in at least the opener if not longer

👀 Justin Haak to us postgame with no love lost for David Lee:

“At the end of last year, our old sporting director told me he didn't think I was a 34 game starter, so it was really big for me to come here and prove him wrong” by starting every game + leagues cup + us open cup

“When you peek behind the curtain, you find another curtain. Bureaucracies excel at this, dispersing responsibility until it dissolves…Every player transfer becomes both his and not his, both brilliant and inevitable, until the very concept of accountability loses its significance.”
David Lee’s tenure as NYCFC sporting director is over. But how do you grade a guy when you don't even know what his job was? @treyfillmore.bsky.social explores this and why NYCFC needs to turn off the corporate autopilot.

talked to team about this:

1. it was written by a human, as with every piece

2. it was ran through AI grammer check which inserted the errors, missed in final human edit

lessons learned all around! (AI stinks ass!)
Probably a good idea to proof read your AI slop before posting it to your team's website.

I have been working on a new USA Soccer stat hub for a couple of months now in Tableau, as I grew increasingly dissatisfied with what I put together at the start of 2025. It's *finally* ready for public consumption. The images here don't show the half of it:

Hi, MLS expert here! American football markings on the pitch can be really annoying but they're actually really easy to avoid if you play soccer on a baseball diamond as god intended
Genuinely to the detriment of this game. Two really neat footballing sides, but a pitch scarred by American football markings/sponsors. bsky.app/profile/csta...
Friday night gripe: football stadiums shouldn’t be used for other sports. That poor Stuttgart pitch.
