Third option, it's probably the fact that I'm using thick cotton paper since that's what my mother gave me. The texture (for lack of a better word) is very different on cardstock or marker paper.

The "snot green" color doesn't look green at all on any of my monitors.

Practice with inking/colored pencils. There's definitely room for improvement but overall I like it.
