Classic red Crown Paints shirt, at the very least.
(Possibly the first football shirt I ever got, a hand-me-down from a family friend).

I was genuinely listening to it, but mostly posting for the cheap werewolf gag.

Life wants you to make a change?
In an amazing coincidence, this is what I've been listening to this afternoon:

Drowning in white russians – now that is a classy way to go!

Scientists operate on principles of good faith. But this is just ridiculous. If you, dear reader, take nothing else away from The Drain paper, it is that publishers cannot be invited to the table any longer.

They can participate and carve a space, but they can't be part of shaping policy.

This earlier version is (IMO) better – and introduced a young, impressionable me to the phenomenal idea that you can include fretboard squeals in recorded music – but I forget if YT pays better rates to artists than Spotify, so go ahead and compare for yourselves.

This is why in-person exams won't go out of style yet, despite other shortcomings. But we need to adapt our assessment methods to keep up with technological changes.

But this problem is maybe not much greater than other forms of academic misconduct (collusion, plagiarism, commissioning, etc.), which affects a small % off students. Will be interesting to see if/how this changes.
Unfortunately, there's no institutional support for dealing with AI misuse yet.

Good question. I'm going for "No AI" in my assignment, so I'll let you know after the deadline hits in 4 weeks!

I think it's designed in a way that using GenAI won't really give an advantage though: there's so much dodgy stats advice online that differs to what I teach, that AI use is a real risk.

We're now using this scale as part of all assignment instructions.
Students can use AI in (some) assessments, but we would expect a higher level of insight in those.
Get them to save/include all prompts & outputs to show how they've extended the AI slop.

I mean, the opening sentence is wrong: "discovering that spiders have human-like personalities".
Like, don't they even cover the fact that spiders have been around way longer than humans and we're the ones with spider-like personalities in "Sensationalising BS for PopSci Blogs 101" these days?

I find adopting a distinctly curmudgeounly persona helps reduce such awkwardness.
