Thanks for sharing this! I have to say, I basically disagree with the writer's nostalgia for these old stores. While there was a bit of mystique to nerdy hobbies back in the day, most stores were pretty shitty and unwelcoming to many potential customers.

The flamethrower were for s'mores!

Or for clearing ice and snow, if you're one of those more boring research bases.
