Decided to try this effect with other shapes. I simply decreased the number of edges. Here are triangles, and it doesn't look too good, because they flicker.

I've managed to make the effect less abrupt while keeping the mesh smooth. I still don't know all the intricacies of geometry nodes. Some things under the hood are quite obscure.

Found a way to make the original mesh smooth. It required to make only one additional link in geometry nodes. So simple! Although, the effect seems to have become a bit faster or something. Oh well, looks alright too.
