A little cars & coffee action from this morning. Can’t beat a shooting brake.

These boomer memes make me laugh because yeah, I agree that feels like the correct sentiment. But also that’s what everyone said about ‘70s cars in the ‘90s. And ‘80s cars in the 2000s. And so on.

But also, it’s possible that no one will be restoring ANY cars in the apocalyptic near future.

So the one thing I’ve learned so far about my predecessor in this teaching job is that he apparently didn’t know how to tell students to clean their brushes.

There's so much important stuff happening in both the world and my life right now, but instead here's a distraction: check out this '78 C10 I just acquired.

The absolute irony of my daughter receiving her MS in Equity and Social Justice in Education the same week I read an email from the college where I've worked for 20 years replacing all of our DEI language with generic words about "community and opportunity". Glad she made it out of Iowa in time.

So proud of my firstborn kid, who received her Master’s degree from UNO today. There’s much to celebrate in the world, even amidst all the noise and chaos.

There was a period of time, about 12-15 years ago, when I would make a hand-drawn flyer every time my band played a show. It was extremely satisfying (but obviously unsustainable). I would photocopy them for distribution, but I’m really glad I preserved most of the originals.

In today's edition of my Random Photo Memories: the Ruan Grand Prix, held in downtown Des Moines between 1989 and 92. Featuring buzzy little mini-trucks (locking 'em up into the corner), and a Newman-Sharp Oldsmobile Trans Am car. Good times.

We've all got our own coping strategies in times of turmoil. One of mine is painting wheels.

36 x 24" on canvas, maybe finished but probably not quite.

Old photos carry meaning for each of us, however we define that. My dad used to drive us all over the place to photograph trains when I was a kid. Trains will always represent my childhood and particularly my dad. Most of these were around the Des Moines area in the late '60s/early '70s.

Please enjoy this random Friday photo memory of yours truly, piloting a '95 Impala SS in around 1998. Good car. Still exists in the back of my in-laws' barn. Hopefully it'll be resurrected someday soon.

Welcome to Motor Monday. Life is way too busy lately for me to make progress on this kind of thing, but at least it looks exciting sitting in the garage when I walk past it.
