Please keep my boy Quandary in your thoughts the next few days. He's got something, we're not sure what, but the prognosis is not great. He's from my first set of kittens, almost four years old now, and such a good boy and clamberpuss. Here he is at a show a year old.

Just been to the vet for the final time with our little decrepit Julie. We think cancer finally got her, she'd had an annual attempt to die and it seems this time she won. She was a cat, not a good cat, but a cat, and I shall miss her and her perpetually grumpy face.

From Brian Beutler's newsletter: The anti-Trump majority is demoralized for many reasons, but a big one is that in most circumstances we can see the main opposition party won’t stand at our backs, let alone our sides, let alone lead us. And it’s worse, because those of us who’ve followed along for years realize that this is how Democrats prefer it. They seek to snuff out grassroots energy before it gets too big to be ignored. They fear nothing more than that activists will raise the salience of issues less popular than “opposing cuts to Medicaid.” They didn’t want Obama’s “organizing for America'“ grassroots serving as a bulwark against Republican renewal in 2009 and 2010 because they worried it might also ask them to deliver politically contentious pieces of the Obama agenda. They didn’t embrace the 2017 resistance for the same reason. And now, through passivity, they’ve helped discourage the formation of a 2025 version.

A one under at Stevenage caused me to divert my ECML journey today. Instead I sampled my first Avanti 805, saw a 142 and the 89 Badger at Crewe, then rode my first 397.
