Agreed. Even in basic undergrad study we’re shown just how much of society is restricted by concepts that aren’t defined in academia. From the concept of intelligence and the, frankly idiotic, IQ cult to the whole weight-health debate and BMI!

Since when has a concept had to be useful (or even work) for it to be implemented into society? There are countless terms that have never been definitively defined by science or academia that are used to create infrastructures that you all use probably on a daily basis. Such as intelligence, IQ, BMI

In the 1400s England decided that twelve year old girls could be engaged but they couldn’t be married because it was too dangerous for them to get pregnant. Some of them got around it and still married their girls off but they couldn’t have sex.
