One has to wonder who on the BOT led Brown to believe that this “Game of Thrones Power-play” would end up as a positive in the short or long term.

Another source shared that this situation at UNC in 2024 was similar to the coach’s uneasy departure from Texas in 2013, and 1997 exit from UNC, where members of his coaching staff were not contacted by Brown for over 30 days, and were left in limbo regarding possible job status in Austin.

Upon landing in Hawaii, UNC Athletics leadership was blindsided by statements made at Brown’s weekly press conference. This was the prelude to the call between Cunningham and Brown that resulted in the firing.

That reversal mindset escalated as soon as the UNC AD’s departure with MBKB to Maui where representatives pushed the narrative that Brown would indeed come back to the Tar Heel sideline in 2025.
