PhotonDust, the particle system created by Yellow Dog Man Studios for Resonite, is moving testing to phase 2. #resonite #vr
[An announcement on Discord] Frooxius: Hello @everyone! First, thank you everyone for testing PhotonDust (our new in-house particle system) so far! I've seen some really cool visuals that people have been making with the new system and I hope you've been having fun with it while testing. Since there don't seem to be any major stability issues in Phase 1 of testing, only few minor reports that got fixed up quickly, I'm now moving testing to Phase 2! I am keeping this phase in prerelease channel until next week just to be on the safe side. Once new week rolls in, I'll merge it into main and we'll continue testing these - the old and new particle systems currently co-exist, so this makes this kind of testing easy. In Phase 2, we focus on compatibility - making sure old content converts properly! Be on a lookout for other bugs too of course, but this means that you can now start reporting conversion issues! This painting is an example of Immersivism, which depicts subjects, places, and ideas in virtual spaces. It was developed through AR prototyping which allows the artist to prepaint brushstrokes before ever actually touching the canvas.

The answer, and a bigger plan:
Text: [kgpaints]: "Farmland" was painted in 2016, a secret declaration of my new direction with art. Previously, the "Virtual Girl" collection at Red Bull had been successful. Now I wanted to dive even deeper into virtual worlds to pull out more interesting concepts. In order to do this, I investigated virtual reality and wrote about it. As a result, I now write for UploadVR--but that's only the beginning of what I actually set out to do. This month, I'll be at The Strange Pear gallery each day this painting is hanging, answering questions for those who are curious. Afterwards, I'll be giving a talk on all of my art research and experiments on blending art, technology, and virtual worlds together. This was nearly a decade-long project that saw my life change, a marriage, and new goals form alongside this big goal of forging a new type of art. I am happy to finally debut this painting after eight years and fully explain it.

There are now three types of virtual plein air paintings. The first two utilize overlay programs such as Painting VR and Vermillion.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL PLEIN AIR? A virtual plein air is when an artist creates a plein air painting with some sort of help from VR technology. Virtual plein airs can be divided into three categories: A physical-to-virtual plein air is when you utilize a VR headset with passthrough mode, such as a Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro, and engage with a painting program (such as Vermillion or Painting VR) to create a digital plein air of a physical location. The location is in physical reality. Your canvas is in virtual reality. These painting programs will let you save your work as an image file when you're done. A virtual-to-virtual plein air is when an artist creates a plein air painting in VR, from start to finish. Their subject is in VR. Their canvas is in VR, too. The canvas can either be sourced with a scripted canvas within that VR platform (such as VRChat, Resonite, or Cluster), or using a program such as Painting VR or Vermillion.
