🎆What is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate it?

My favorite festival is Diwali, the Festival of Lights. I love how families come together, exchange sweets, wear traditional clothes, and burst fireworks to mark the triumph of light over darkness.

📖 What top book, movie, or show do you recommend?

"The Pursuit of Happiness" is a 2006 biographical drama film starring Will Smith, depicting the true story of Chris Gardner's struggle with homelessness while raising his son.

🗣️ What languages do you speak?

English, Hindi, and Marathi

🛺What do you love most about where you live?

I live in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, which eases my daily commute to the office, and is accessible to famous tourist places of Mumbai.

“I am living like a healthy person,” she says. “I am happier than ever. Cancer was the worst thing that ever happened to me, but it also taught me how to truly live. Every day is a gift, and I don't waste a single one." 🎁

She could spend time with her grandchildren without getting exhausted.

Today, Batjargal is even building her son’s house with her family! 🏠 And every time she visits the hospital, she shares her story with other patients, offering hope and encouragement.

When she was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in 2022, she was shocked. She wondered if she would get to see her 9 grandkids grow up.

Her doctor connected her to our program to receive treatment, which she began taking every day. Week by week, Batjargal started feeling better.

With a career spanning both the nonprofit and private sectors, including pharmaceutical finance, Edgar's leadership will be instrumental in scaling our impact and ensuring financial sustainability for years to come.

His swollen hands and feet became symbols of holding on. And his family, friends, and community became his strength.

Today, Ukta lives. He walks in the sun, cherishing the light on his face. He talks to neighbors. He laughs deeper. He is grateful.

It didn’t knock. It barged in, bringing pain, fatigue, fear, and financial uncertainty. Ukta wasn’t afraid of dying. He was afraid of what dying would leave behind, always thinking of others.

But Ukta survived, thanks to hope ignited from accessing treatment through our programs.

🦁Her resilience became her signature. She told her doctor:
“My name is Leona—like a lioness. I can’t stay lying down.”

In 2021, Leona became one of the first four patients in Paraguay to enter our Treatment Free Remission program. She never missed a test, never missed a consultation.

At first, the news was kept from her. But when she discovered the truth, she responded, “I didn’t ask for this illness, but since it’s here, if there’s treatment, I’ll follow it—for my family.”

With unwavering strength, Leona embraced her treatment insisting, “I will not be afraid. This is a test.”
