I can't leave the world like this for my kids. I just can't.
That is exactly the problem. Ford pardoned Nixon because he wrongly believed it would "heal the nation," but what the nation needed was justice, a reckoning. They needed to see that no one was above the law.

It was the same with Biden and TACO.

Perfectly appropriate. Thank you, my fellow Mark.

And this is why I fucking love David Lynch. 😂❤️

Nah, fam, their book says, "I was hungry, and you said get a job, you dirty hippie. I was a stranger, and deported me. Insomuch as you have done to the richest of these, you have also done it to me. Yay capitalism."

That part. Every time the GOP lurched to the right, Dems rushed after them to capture the fabled and much ballyhooed "political middle," Nixon's so-called "silent majority," rather than staying true to their principles and taking up for the little guy. Thus, they went further right as well.
July 4, 2025 at 8:24 PM
Yup. Just up and vanished like a fart in the wind.
July 4, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Oh, they don't have to give it up. They don't even have to cancel the midterms outright. They just have to prevent enough Dems from voting or have their ballots thrown out. Here in NC, the State Supreme Court has already evinced a willingness to entertain such a possibility.

I definitely don't think they have no weaknesses, but at the same time, we do need to prepare for the long haul.
July 4, 2025 at 8:06 PM
They do make some payments. More than one state is considering it, too.

I do agree, though, that a general strike would be the best, most effective strategy but extremely difficult to organize.

To fight Trump's funding freezes, states propose a new gambit: Withholding federal payments
Democratic lawmakers have introduced the novel and untested approach in at least four states.

I certainly hope so, but the problem is that I live in a red state. We have a Democratic governor at least, but I wouldn't put it past the GOP controlled General Assembly to hamstring him again.
July 3, 2025 at 9:10 PM
This exactly. Biden is at least as much to blame as Garland, if not more so. He tried to be the statesman, playing the Ford to TACO's Nixon, with a pardon in all but name. He wanted to forgive and forget, to heal and move on, when what we really needed was a reckoning, to see that justice matters.

This is exactly what it is. They've already gone after the "illegal" immigrants, then the legal (brown) immigrants, and now, it's time for them to go after liberal citizens.

It has begun.

Right??? Turnabout is fair play.
July 3, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Btw, here is the article. I found it. Apparently, the measure has been introduced in several states by Democratic lawmakers:

HELL YEAH! I'm just pessimistic right now because I doubt we will have midterms, not free and open ones anyway. That deck is going to be stacked like a MF. They'll be physically barring people from the polls. Watch.

Some of them are already trying to fight back, even if only in small, mostly symbolic ways:

I wouldn't hold my breath. It might come someday, far down the line, if (and that's a VERY big "if") we ever defeat fascism while somehow preserving the republic. I'm not going to count on it, though.

Oh, I am VERY well aware, my friend, VERY well aware. The biggest takeaway from this past election, for me, is that men across the board are trash. Even young men from Gen Z bought into that Andrew Tate misogynist bullshit, swallowing it hook, line and sinker. They're arguably the most vile.
July 3, 2025 at 8:44 PM
It's interesting you say that, because I recently saw a story that at least one state - I forget which one but I think it's NY or California - is threatening to withhold payments to the federal government for withholding services.

Trent Lott once praised the 1948 segregationist Dixiecrat nominee, Strom Thurmond, saying Mississippi was "proud" to have voted for him and that had he been elected, "we wouldn't have all these problems." The blowback ended Lott's career.

Loomer joked about genocide of Latinos. Zero consequences.

I'm done making excuses for my fellow white working class people who keep voting against their own god damn interests because of hateful ideologies. I can't speak for other races or ethnicities, but white working class people brought this shit on themselves.
July 3, 2025 at 8:26 PM
To a certain extent, yes, but the ones who voted for him should have known better, no matter their race or ethnicity. They get no sympathy from me.
