Baseballs break because of spin, or the Magnus force. They also break because of differences between the air flow around them on two sides due to seams, which we call Seam -Shifted Wake. If you would like to learn more about it, check out baseballaero.com/2020/12/23/c...

My dean nominated my wife for USU Veteran of the Year, and I'm attending the lunch in honor of her and others today. She usually hates this stuff, but for once, it's an award she didn't apply for and she's really proud. I'm proud of her. Happy Veteran's Day.

Had occasion go be in the REALLY tiny town of Newton, UT today and spied the nicest little ball field I've seen around here, right at Center and Main, as it should be.

I was very fortunate back in 2018 that a mutual friend introduced me to Ron Jeffries, who gave me a tour of Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter, MI. Very sadly, Ron passed away last year. We lost a true original. Raise a glass to Ron and to Michigan beer, best in the USA IMHO.

This was 6 years ago, thinking about spinning the ball around a seam. not the right part of the seam, as it turned out, but still.

This is my fav from these guys so far. I commented that I was happy they brought it back. They explained that they had to make old beers because new labels have to be approved by the feds, who are closed.

@chloedenmark.bsky.social Hi, Chloe. I'm looking for folks interested in applying Seam-Shifted Wakes to softball. Do you know of any?

My timeline is a bit too NYC orientated most days. But today it's just right.

I've been looking forward to swiping all the leftover Halloween Dots, but I haven't seen any! What happened to them?

My son and I watched this about 200 times.
Wallace et Gromit : A Grand Day Out premiered 36 years ago today.

"To replenish their depleted supply of cheese, inventor Wallace and his dog Gromit travel to the moon in a homemade rocket-ship."

See how they try to minimize this violence? He threw the sandwich as hard as he could.

This got me thinking that it's too bad that high school pitchers don't have a switch like this so they can ignore bad coaching advice while remaining "coachable."

Damn. I don’t get paid enough for this.

I'm not sure what to think, but after sending me over the top in less than an inning yesterday, I'm **kind of** enjoying Smoltz tonight? I think he's having a lot of fun.

I'd hate for baseball to end. So, how about no?

Calling it. Bringing in a guy with 10 starts on short rest in relief is sketchy as hell.
