Probably average for Boomers. I totally agree that the concept shouldn’t be a factor in choosing s partner. Being queer complicates it, too, because many of us were shunned by family. I just wanted to give a POV that the phrase is useful in practical ways. The whole picture and all that, 😎

Nobody WANTS to think about funeral arrangements or body disposal or wills or getting rid of family heirlooms or pulling the plug or any of that crap. But not having a will means someone else is stuck with it and figuring out what to do with your body. And so on. Reality and motivation, not a goal.

Of course. The goal is not “dying alone.” But the reality is what makes many of us realize that if we don’t do the end of life stuff, happily living alone, then dying alone will leave a lifetime of stuff that will go in the trash and assets that will go to the state and pets to shelters or worse

“Average” is, by definition, relative. I’ve lived alone most of my adult life. At my age, many do. Many of us also don’t have family who check on them and live in houses surrounded by people they don’t interact with beyond a wave hello. Most have a lifetime of stuff that lives with them. cont…
