This is the chance to seek increased humanitarian funding.

Also, the DRC faces one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, with over 21 million people requiring aid and 25.5 million suffering from severe food insecurity. The UN’s 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan for the DRC requires $2.54 billion to assist 11 million people.

The DRC will also push for MONUSCO to have greater freedom of movement in M23-controlled areas and support for civilian protection. This would also serve as a challenge to M23’s political influence over the occupied population.

We are likely to see an increased push for sanctions and accountability in case the peace negotiation, mediated by the US doesn’t materialize. In the last 2 years, the DRC has urged punitive measures against M23 and Rwanda, and its UNSC membership will, without a doubt, amplify calls for sanctions.

But they also usually sell those guys for big bucks. It’s not about just buying. Look at Ugarte for example.

In the end, Lack of granular data means we can’t confirm the source of the money to fund these deals, as Rwanda’s budgets blend taxes, tourism revenue, aid (~20% of GDP), and potentially “illicit sources.” 8/8

DRC’s call to end Visit Rwanda deals raised red flags, & some Atlético fans may worry about ethics. But Rwanda’s tourism push has real benefits. Can the club back the deal while addressing DRC concerns? 7/8

Is it sportswashing? Critics say Rwanda’s deals with Atlético, PSG, & Arsenal distract from DRC conflict claims. Yet, Rwanda insists it’s just tourism promotion. One would assume that Atletico Madrid probed deeper into the allegations before agreeing to the deal. 6/8

But there are questions. Do ethics matter in football anymore?

DRC accuses Rwanda of backing M23 rebels, linked to 7,000+ deaths & 700,000 displaced in 2025. Some say Atlético risks endorsing a regime tied to “blood minerals” & conflict. 5/8

And I would say Atlético’s global reach aligns with Rwanda’s ambition to be a tourism & investment hub. The deal counters “false narratives” & showcases Rwanda’s stability, as RDB claims. Visibility at Metropolitano Stadium is huge! 4/8

Also like the other aforementioned deals, The deal will most likely give Rwandan youth access to Atlético’s top-tier coaching. Training camps & knowledge transfer can grow football in Rwanda, fostering talent & community pride. It’s a win for sports development! 3/8

Rwanda’s deal with Atlético Madrid boosts tourism & global image. Visit Rwanda’s partnerships (Arsenal, PSG) have driven 17% tourism growth. Atlético’s Spanish-speaking audience opens new markets for Rwanda’s economy. Smart investment! 2/8

Also this is my opinion and it may sound very pessimistic but I don’t think Tomiyasu will ever be healthy enough to play consistently for Arsenal.

I guess we are going to wait and see but I don’t see none of these guys being our primary LB. I think MLS will keep that position, a new DM will be signed and Partey will have to be the back because I can’t see him being healthy for another whole season either.
