Well, the big Keylocker update from July didn't end up fixing the biggest bug that allows the speedrun route to work, so I guess i'm finishing it after all. The funny thing about it is that the patch notes specifically state it was fixed, so I assumed it would require a full reroute.

Racing Lagoon turned out to be a fantastic game, highly recommend. The cutscene/story direction is kind of insane and the music is incredible. Just be prepared to repeat race tracks more than you might like to.

Castlevania 64 made me a bit sad because it has so much cool shit in it, but it just plays and controls like ass.

Briefly tested FFT Classic mode on the new patch and definitely noticed a difference in the sfx. They fixed the basic attack sound to be accurate to PS1 and Bolt also sounds good now. Equipping still way too quiet and some stuff still has a bit of twang to it, but it's overall much better.

Finished FFT Classic last night. It definitely runs fast with 0 lag and faster processing in general. They fixed every bug I could think of except for stealing from Gaf. The 1 major change I saw is that they made the sluice battle end when you kill everything instead of forcing you to hit switches.

I booted up classic mode FFT and the game feels faster; ai thinks less, menus seem a bit snappier, and you can skip cutscenes. I haven't played the game in ages, so I might be imagining it. It does have sfx issues, somewhat muffled and some emu style twang to them.

This is why you cannot trust YouTubers and publishers in the retrogaming space. This 2025 megadrive game presented as "better than most snes game" has assets traced over existing sprites (Wild Guns and Shinobi III) and AI-generated backgrounds. Garbage game, garbage company, garbage shill youtuber.

I think the final verdict on Grandia 3 is that it's kinda bad, but the combat is great and makes up for everything else. It's a game made for people who have played the rest of the series since the boss fights are actually difficult. Even random encounters are dangerous at times.

I might stream Age of Empires 2 in April when the big patch hits. The game is warping in an odd way where they're changing and replacing so much stuff that it's basically a Theseus paradox. Civs that have been mostly the same since vanilla AOE2 are having new units added + major balance changes.

At the moment I'm not feeling that hate for Grandia 3 is warranted, but I'm only like 9 hours in. It has potentially the best combat in the series with a dip in story/characters/music compared to the rest of the games. It kinda just feels like going from a 9/10 game to a 7/10 game, but still okay.

The Wild ARMs XF journey is over. It had some really cool class synergy stuff and often forced you to change up your team comp to clear certain maps. It was unfortunately padded beyond belief and went too heavy on the gimmicks. Lots of funny moments, though.
