My cousin got married today in my parents’ yard with my mom as the officiant. As a teen coming out to my mom and being met with “you’re not bi, you’re just confused” I never in a million years thought I’d see a pride flag hanging on her mailbox. I’m so happy but also have conflicting feelings.

A block of text which reads as follows: Filter house six stood at the corner of Tenth and Woodlawn streets. One of eleven monuments to Espar City’s Clean Air Initiative, its architecture was as brilliant as its technology. It, as well as the other filter houses, had been designed by the grandson of the architect who designed the palace and, in many ways, mirrored its beauty. A masterwork of Art Nouveau style retroactively constructed to blend in with the city’s historic charm. Ironwork tendrils wound through a sea of glass, arsenic green flowers blooming amid gossamer teal in every window of the building which climbed seven stories in its asymmetric glory. Ryder didn’t pretend to understand how the filter houses worked. His contact explained it had something to do with the honeycomb-like cupola perched at the top, combined with plant extracts used in the creation of the glass. Whatever the case, the mission was clear—destroy the building.

Gelatinous, as though he, like these fish, might lose all the structure in his body and be unable to hold his shape without this one thing to hold him together. For the fish it was the pressure of the ocean, millions of gallons of water pressing down on them. For Walden it was this man who stood in front of him. There again was that stupid sweet smile, coming through in the worst of times. In a few short days he’d gone from a friendly acquaintance to someone Walden didn’t want to live without. They say trauma bonds people. What would happen to them when the fight was over?"

A block of the following text: "The trio continued on, shoes splashing in the damp sidewalk, sprinkling reflections like kaleidoscopes. Though it wasn’t particularly late, the streets were empty. Occasional voices emanated through open windows, a taste of the city’s lifeforce displayed in snippets of conversation, shouting, laughter. In the quiet beauty of it all, it was easy to forget the dire cause of their mission. Opus street shone ahead, illuminated by the flickering sign of a twenty-four-hour laundry across the way. As they rounded the corner a building came into view beyond a wooden wall painted with depictions of city life which eventually gave way to a tall chain-link fence. The structure had the bearing of a jilted beauty, a Miss Havisham adorned in lace but betrayed and left to ruin. With her stone steps and columned entrance she stood as a now crumbling example of Esparian Golden Age architecture, the words Ansel Academy carved in stone on her face."

One of my favorite first paragraphs of a chapter in The Moon's Ashen Glow

Maybe “drunk” is too harsh. “Tipsy” certainly suited the manner in which he stumbled along the sidewalk, though he seemed to have his wits about him. Walden didn’t mind though, as this gave him the opportunity to serve as a crutch. His heels made him the perfect height to serve as a head rest, the King’s faux raven tresses tickling his cheek as they wobbled through the streets alongside a smug Marshall. There was an intimacy in the way Elias’ arms wrapped around his, hands clinging to his jacket, the silver of which glowed yellow in the street lamps. As anxiety-inducing as the last two days had been, a sense of comfort now nestled into his chest which he hoped would carry him into the next day’s battle.

I got "collapse" and dug into my shelved (but maybe not for long?) WIP to get this gem of an interaction between our MC and love interest.
