I loved the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest too and was lucky to catch it with not too many folks at 7AM. That's the thing in Japan, wherever you go there are TONS of other folks tehre too. I was pretty lucky that it was pouring on my big day walking around Kyoto it led to some pretty empty photos.

And I found myself getting obsessed with walkways and stairs too.

I also loved shooting pics of the temples themselves. I had a Marathon day last Sunday in Kyoto where I walked 11 miles taking in as much as I could.

And then there are the gardens. Oh man. They were so serene. I found myself going quiet. My internal monologue slowed and I just took it all in.

I also loved seeing how water and rain is ever-present. Mosts restaurants and public places have huge umbrella racks. Extensive drainage systems have been in place for hundreds of years in places like Kyoto and throughout temple facilities.

I was obsessed.

I found myself getting pretty obsessed with gatou, the circular discs that close up eaves. Each temple had its own style, and I just couldn't help but take tons of pictures of them.

Back from Japan and thought I'd share some pics. I'll drop em in separate posts around themes. First up... Power lines. Japan is a pretty organized place and so it really struck me how wild and chaotic their power lines were:
