Fair enough I guess it's a matter of personal taste, though I do appreciate how it shows that they actually thought about how the setting would factor into the character designs rather than making the characters and setting feel disconnected from each other.

They actually explained that one, it's due to the setting. The characters live in a walled dome sort of interior with a ceiling covering the sky, so they haven't been exposed to sun. They admit it was an intentional design choice to fit within the context of the narrative.
