Read these books in my early 20’s and I found them a slog. Once I turned 40 I reread them and they captured me. It was the theme of hope and hopelessness that captured me. I just needed to live a little more and get kicked in the guts by life a little more before I heard what the books said.

When I first saw him he was more like the color of a powdered cinnamon donut and the name stuck!
