You only need ONE of those movies to be a hit in order to make the budget back for the FOUR rather than betting the farm on a single creatively bankrupt sequel/franchise tie-in. (part3)

Rather than spending 100-250 million on a juggernaut sequel that trades ideas for imagery (along with an endless stream of studio meddling), splitting that money into 4 mid budget films with wild ideas (and little studio meddling) is not only a better idea artistically but also financially. (part2)
