Wild at Heart
This was a fever dream. Things kept happening and they just totally refused to ever stop happening. I think the chemistry and performance of the two leads puts this one at the next level. They were equally performative and genuine to each other in a way that felt so honest.

Blue Velvet
This has been a huge brainworm movie for me. The dichotomy and coexistence between goodness and evil is presented perfectly in a story that plays out like a living nightmare. And to top it all off, it has the chicken walk.

Dune 1984
It was definitely an interesting watch, and I’m glad it exists, but the story just ultimately doesn’t work. Putting the whole first book’s story into 2 hours leads to nothing ever feeling like a true moment. And even worse, a lot of the thematic parts of the story end up getting lost.

Severance season 2
It feels like they made a TV show just for me and I love it

Eraserhead
The imagery and sequences in this are fun to watch for how bizarre and absurd they are. I think after watching them I really do understand *most* of them. The idea of having a child and permanently settling down in life is to some degree pretty scary and hard to comprehend.

I'm Still Here
Great film, I thought it was acted and shot pretty much perfectly. I think towards the end I was kinda ready for it to end but outside of that no notes.

Maria
I went into this expecting not to care for it much, but ultimately enjoyed it. The cinematography nomination was well deserved, and Angelina Jolie was incredible in the role of Maria. She is probably what ultimately makes the film for me.

Nosferatu
Very cool film. I ended up really liking all the non-nosferatu (nonferatu?) characters a lot more than I expected going in. And of course, the cinematography and visual style is about as good as it gets.

A Different Man
They're calling it the biggest mogging that's ever been put to film. But seriously The two main performances were great and I related to what Edward was going through.

A Complete Unknown
Yeah it was a solidly made music biopic with an electric main performance. My favorite part was definitely Bob Dylan causing a riot by playing electric guitar. Outside of that it was all solid I suppose.

Twin Peaks: The Return
The more time I spend reflecting on The Return, the more grateful I am for having seen it. I feel like this has expanded the way I'm willing to view, engage, and interact with cinema. The narrative can border on nonsensical while the emotions are crystal clear.

Dune: Part Two
I thought the story this time was even better. I bought in to the acting a lot more, the story was better, and visually and auditorily it was somehow even better.

Dune
The introduction to this world is great. I think it perhaps took me a minute to fully be interested in the characters, but after that it was all uphill. All the technical aspects were done incredibly.

RE: Wicked
I definitely see some of the issues when it comes to like lighting or directing. I was not really bothered by it too much while watching, because everything else was pretty great. The two main performances, music, and the movie's humor in particular stand out the most for me.

Conclave
I loved the parts of the movie that felt like a reality TV show or a political drama. On top of that, the production of the film was incredible. I didn't love the catholic church drama, especially at the ending. That didn't take away much from the good parts tho.

The Brutalist
This was a super engaging narrative. The more time goes by the more the themes resonate with me. It was also beautifully shot and directed. I'll always respect when a 3+ hour movie feels like it earns its runtime.

Nickel Boys
The story was equal parts powerful and devastating, same with the characters. The first-person perspective does come with some drawbacks, but being able to see firsthand what these two go through makes up for it and then some. Some parts felt slow, but a great film to have watched.

Emilia Perez
If this movie had good writing, good music, a director who cared about the subject matter, competent themes, actors who spoke Spanish, and a completely different story it would've went so hard. As it is, yeesh.

Anora
The first 40 mins felt like a dream, followed by the rest of the movie which felt like I woke up with the worst hangover possible. Ani is an incredibly rootable protagonist and the rest of the characters are perfect foils. I simply love movies where people constantly talk over each other

The Substance
Gross, intense, interesting, very occasionally funny, and gross. I thought the directing, themes, and acting were incredible. Outside of some plot choices I didn't love towards the end, I don't have anything negative to say. However, I'll never watch it again.

A Real Pain
I really understood what Eisenberg's character was going through here. The constant switching between jealousy and aggravation at someone you admire, feel annoyed by, and are concerned for really hit home for me. Kieran Culkin is incredible in making those jumps feel believable.

September 5
The idea of a thriller set only in a control room does ultimately work. I think the amount of time passing from start to end was not well defined, though. I did appreciate the moral dilemmas the characters go through and they were able to generate a good amount of suspense.
