This sequence in particular was what really did it, though.

The fact the carnage keeps going even after Thomas dies is already frightening enough, but good lord, the sound design really sells the ferocity of the whole thing - Tobias isn’t just killing Thomas, he’s destroying him.

My copy of “Tobias and the Arcane Merchant” seems to be acting a bit strange.
