Science, social equity, post-growth, planet, dad jokes focused Aotearoa (NZ) video maker, exploring mash-ups of new behaviour science, technology, slightly ambiguous looks, and communal, long-term thinking fun, to dramatically reduce human consumption.
So he's somehow convinced that a Palestinian statehood declaration from nz is a powerful carrot to drive Hamas to release hostages 🤔 even though something as profound as the ongoing threat of literally thousands of Palestinians continually being killed has achieved pretty much no motivation at all.

Found this on the subject (attached) from this site - www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-21... Looks like I might stand corrected. Initially I thought the bottom axis was describing 'years of driving' but actually only refers to 'per thousand miles of driving'.
Factcheck: 21 misleading myths about electric vehicles - Carbon Brief
Carbon Brief factchecks 21 of the most common – and persistent – myths about electric vehicles.

Ok, well i obviously like to be a little more holistic than you re the points we make around this subject, but thanks for bringing said subject up.

I guess it comes down to how much carbon and resources it would take to build enough renewable generators to replace the energy output of an existing coal-fired station, and if those ratios would be the same when swapping out an ICE vehicle for an EV. You have numbers to show an inequivalence?

Hmmm ok, that company's carbon miles might be a bit more justifiable. So your point is that if we are going to restrict global trade, for environmental reasons, then we should be selective about who we restrict based on how necessary their business is to humanity. Yes, I totally agree.
August 24, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Possibly not. This company probably sits quite high on the 'how-unnecessary-for-humanity-is-this-company's-carbon-miles' spectrum, compared with other businesses, but thats my point. Why use them as poster boy, as opposed to some other org who's trade is actually a justified use of global shipping?

Sorry, in order to get my sympathy, they picked the wrong small business for this story. Predominantly focused on importing berets from Europe and s.america into nz, to sell on to customers in the states? That company deserves to go under, just quietly.

So why do they say it's better to keep your old internal combustion vehicle than buy a new EV. Embedded energy counts for quite a lot, right?

Horrendous. Thanks for your work reporting this.

By favorably framing, did it go as far as endorsing said killer's actions on March 15? I've always wondered how much, back then, he expected his actions would ignite some kind of uprising in line with that ideology. And I wonder how he feels, today, about those actions he took.

Argh! Thank you!

I believe it will largely be a cultural thing, and if I'm correct, quite a valuable one, in terms of creating connecting/bonding spaces for that community. As for the police raids, do the cops have some kind of justification that is just not mentioned in this excerpt? (he asks, horrified.)

Why an amendment is needed to make this clear is beyond me, but a helpful reinforcing of the message all the same.

This makes me feel deeply uncomfortable to the core.

Why aren't Labour pumping out graphics like that? Because then they would feel obligated to actually do something significant about inequality, once they are back in (cue picture of helpless I vertebrates).

Hasn't it been common understanding for a while now, that the focus of prisons should be on better rehabilitation, not longer punishment? I guess Luxon's dog whistle audience must have missed that memo.

I literally cannot make any sense of why people still insist on using single use cups for their coffee, with 99.9% of them still ending up in landfill. For. Hundreds. Of. Years.
