One day you're preparing your kid for the first day of kindergarten and now you're congratulating her for getting into a Master's program in the classics.

When you're a parent, yesterday goes quickly and tomorrow comes slowly.

I don't know how much of this is causative and how much correlative, but I inadvertently left my cellphone downstairs last night—thus going to sleep earlier—and today I noticed:

* My memory/recall is better
* More energy in my workout
* Blood pressure stayed low
* I feel more calm

Like so many others, I LOVED Demi Moore's Golden Globes acceptance speech last night. But as a communication coach, I also saw and shared what made it so magnetic so others can apply it to any presentation.

What Communicators Can Learn from Demi Moore’s Golden Globes Speech
Moore's speech was authentic and powerful. Your next presentation can also be memorable if you examine and apply why the moment was magnetic.

The greatest thing that can be said about a recently-passed person is that they were a tireless and unbiased humanitarian. That was #JimmyCarter, who was also a president, Nobel Prize winner, and peanut farmer.
Jimmy Carter, former US president and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, dead at 100, Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports
Jimmy Carter, the earnest Georgia peanut farmer who as U.S. president struggled with a bad economy and the Iran hostage crisis but brokered peace between Israel and Egypt and later received the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work, has died, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Sunday. He was 100.

Anyone else have a relative who holds restaurant servers hostage by interrogating them and sharing endless personal stories?

I don't think it's just the server's responsibility to pardon themselves and walk away; it's also the patron's responsibility to be situationally aware.

Juror #2 was not very good. The writing was simplistic and ham-fisted, the acting shallow, and the premise laughably far-fetched. I often like Hoult, but he held the expression below from the first frame to the last. Eastwood can sometimes be very sloppy, and this is exhibit A.

I've been a #Superman fan forever. Waited in line for Superman: The Movie when I was 10, loved Superman 2, and didn't mind Cavill (though Superman vs Batman was excrable).

Including Krypto, Supergirl, and others makes me nervous, but the trailer has me hopeful!

Words shape perceptions. Consider the impact of changing one word in this description of relocating content.

🥱 "We REUSED it" = Took a practical approach

🤔 "We REPURPOSED it" = Took a strategic approach

🤩 "We REIMAGINED it" = Took a visionary approach

When you change your mind (and that intention should be assumed until we can read minds), your first statement may be a mistake, but isn't a lie. You lie when you say something you know is false or is undeniably false the moment you say it. Otherwise, every change of mind we have makes us all liars.

The distinction between "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" is pretty moot right? There are store and online sales before, during, and after the period, and those Black Friday consumer mob scenes are long gone. Who says "Cyber" anymore anyway (ugly vehicles notwithstanding).

Just bought t-shirts from TeePublic featuring some of my favorite—mostly old—movies, brands, TV shows, and bands. But I had to ask myself: I love the concepts, but would I WEAR them in public? That whittled them down (Sorry, Air Supply & Love Boat!) How many of these would you wear?

On Thursday, I'm doing a Moth-type story slam with notes and I'm calmly excited because I feel like I'm piloting the plane—not jumping out of it. Wish me fun!

I wasn't as political on Twitter as some of you, but there are other things I don't miss besides the trolls:

* Constant trivia question clickbait ("Name an X that isn't Y"!)

* "Writers Lifts" that are actually self-promotional gimickry

* Fatalistic screaming into the void

* "Can anybody see me?"
