This is why billionaires cannot take control of Canadian politics. I'm sure the system isn't perfect but certainly no one person can buy the Canadian Government. The elections are financed by Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada. The candidates themselves are limited to $5000.00.
Elections Canada political contributions limits. It says the max contribution is: To each registered party is $1725.00yr In total to all registered associations, nomination contestants and candidates of each registered party is $1725.00/yr In total to all leadership contestants in a particular contest $1725.00/yr To each independent candidate during an election race $1725.00 *Only individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents can make contributions.

For those that think Canada wants to be the 51st state, think again. I am a proud Canadian. My family chose to come to Canada in 1965, not the USA.
