BfA Jaina would certainly have an edge, with or without Lei Shen's powers. And Jaina of today is actually Jaina at her peak. There's no way, after all those years, they'd be on par.

According to Dave Kosak, this actually wasn't the case, she was simply portrayed as "forceful". He said that Jaina saw Varian about to make a horrible mistake and sought to prevent that.

...Jaina said dismantle. Not kill. She had nothing harsh or malicious in mind. She would've most likely sought to subdue, not kill.
So that would've been the Alliance's aim as well.
Unless Varian was a psycho, which he wasn't.
