Oh for sure! Achievements, be it in game or built into the platform you're playing on should be there to enhance the experience. A fun side distraction for those trying to squeeze just a bit more out of the game. But to say a game is "incomplete" without them is kind of dumb take, imo.

They can be a fun way to add some extra completely optional content or a nice way to sort of commemorate hitting major points in a game. You can add fun or interesting challenges that players that want to "master" a game can strive for without affecting the game itself. Some games overdo it though.
