Sometimes people organise 'leaflet drops' so I can't tell from here when people 'ran' that they were 'pretending to cavass'.
Yeah, individual party memberships/activists have declined, others have grown, not sure of an overall combined figure.

Yeah the CC canvassers generally stopped at 7.30pm, so there's less time to canvass......

Yeah, there's many factors, but you'd be doing well to get 50% answering at the best of times (6pm - 8pm), it fall to about 30% in the afternoon & 15% b4 noon, from my experience etc.....

Imho, the phenomenon of the mobile phone since then has seen the answering of 'cold knocks' decline.
