It’s their assessment of it, but they weren’t meant to release it till after the parliamentary set piece. So markets, opposition and journalists all have loads more time to scrutinise it

Yep such a good example of how poorly judged it is. This is only going to get worse as well given we are in an era where there aren’t two clear best in the world options and it’s hard to get it too wrong

It’s based on the entirely false premise that the people voting will have watched enough of the players involved to know how good they actually were. So result just boils down to some arbitrary big moment which doesn’t at all reflect who was in fact the best player over the year

Sure but Arteta has shown very little interest in such an approach. Imagine he might place a great deal of value on having Zubi in build up in such games

I mean he shoots from distance a lot, that’s generally bad as opposed to shooting close to goal. Anyone statistically minded would agree. Of course he will play, we’ve spent loads of money on him, but others won’t as a result. Central spaces he’s not nearly as good as our starters

Nah he isn’t, this isn’t a top tier player. This is a good player who takes mostly bad shots but is an elite dribbler. His dribbling is special particularly in central spaces, where we aren’t going to use him a lot short of benching a starting midfielder.

He does hold width, we ask him to go 1v1 a lot on the outside. He also doesn’t always do that (much like that isn’t all Martinelli does!) but Eze will have to do that or we just cramp the midfield up

But we don’t entirely let Trossard do that, he is asked to hold the width and if he doesn’t it does just crowd the middle and generally make us worse. I don’t think he does relieve Odegaard from that burden because he’s likely playing left wing, so is just quite far from influencing the play

Final point, no idea how this helps us with Havertz. Trossard has been poor up front recently and Martinelli has just never really played there. What’s the plan for when Gyokeres doesn’t play? We now have 7 attackers (excluding Jesus), someone has to go.

Also sceptical about him as an eight. He does give the ball away quite a lot and isn’t an amazing passer. On top of that it involves benching one of Rice/Zubi/Odegaard which doesn’t seem likely to happen much. Also could block Nwaneri minutes

But he’s not a perfect fit and he’s not our second best attacking player (Odegaard is better). On the left, he wants to come inside and play broadly as a wingfielder, we don’t have anyone to hold the width instead. It’s also insane money for a 27 year old who isn’t elite

I don’t think it does that this season or next, beyond that I agree. Just think it’s a poor use of resources
