Right now feels like a League of Nations moment for the world. Rulers like Netanyahu and Putin want it to be. Defying the international system is an end in itself for them. They want the rest of us to see that we are also alone, that we have to take care of our selves the way they do.

He appealed to the principles of collective security and international morality. But the world failed to act. It was the death knell of the League, and a signal to other fascists that they could invade smaller countries at will.
