Christian pagan stories.
Athetist morality.
The love of another's language.

All very Irish.

And maybe Bluesky is the only place where I'd make this rant. 😅

Irish in the sense of loving the English language and the joy you can have with it, while feeling the pain of being stuck with a language that is not Irish.

And honestly this duality of wanting to get to the core of old Irish stories while being thankful for Christians for preserving them is so Irish.

Irish in the same way as not believing in God, but spending your childhood learning the importance of do onto others as you would have them do onto you.

Arthur Griffith wrote: "Lloyd George is a humorous rascal. He talked today of the vast amount of produce England bought from Ireland. I said, you don't buy it for the love of our beautiful eyes. Whereupon, with a smile, Lloyd George yielded, saying, no, on account of your beautiful butter."

This is a 22kg clump of bog butter – butter from around 3000 years ago preserved in an Irish bog. It was either a ritualistic offering or stored for later (tasty!)

Even during the Anglo-Irish Treaty debates after the War of Independence butter was discussed more than you'd think.
