Seeing conservative friends post about #NoKings has me wondering how much lingering bitterness over Covid policies is driving some political dynamics even still today…

I keep seeing headlines about Kimmel’s comments on Charlie Kirk… if you watch the clip, he hardly talks about Kirk at all - most of it is criticizing or mocking Trump and his allies.

1. We do not know the motive of the shooter. The man who shot at Trump was after attention.
2. The man who murdered MN legislators WAS motivated by politics, and I didn’t hear any Dems calling for reprisals against all Repubs.
3. It’s easy to start a cycle of violence. Not easy to end one.
Very, very bad stuff coming from leading right-wingers

I'm sick after seeing the video of Charlie Kirk being shot.

Violence against civilians is never okay. Political violence — no matter who is hurt — will always beget worse political violence. And it has no place in our country.

“Plausibility engine” is going to stick with me…
I wrote about Grok going "MechaHitler" over at X, and the need to view LLMs correctly: as remarkably powerful plausibility engines.

Their AGI marketing and the strong inclination to project human qualities to anything that can speak is misleading us.

Just did a Google search where I put one term in quotation marks since I knew it would likely get auto-corrected… Google added “there are also results for [autocorrected version]” and included them anyway, with a link to only show what I actually searched. 🤦🏻‍♂️

AI images often have subtle mistakes you don’t notice at first: inconsistent designs, different-sized objects, an extra finger. But text models do this too with logic and meaning! The key for most use cases is whether that level of precision is “good enough.”

If your law is good when there are good people in office, but dangerous when there are bad people in office, your law is bad.
Separately and notably, GLAAD — which dropped its opposition to KOSA last year after changes to the bill, easing its path to Democratic support — told me it now wants lawmakers to review the bill in light of "changes in the FTC and other government leadership." www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I’m not sure which is worse: the President starting a war all on his own, or the idea that the US can just bomb another country and not be “at war” with them.

“There is Danger from all Men. The only Maxim of a free Government, ought to be to trust no Man living, with Power to endanger the public Liberty.”

Apart from politics, it’s fascinating to me how we’ve gone from people buying cars without even giving a thought to the manufacturer’s management to people proactively putting bumper stickers on their cars about how they view the manufacturer’s CEO.
