I have a system! You need to track the location, device, and webpage that prompts the 2FA. our ITS says it was the *browser* that dictates it, but no - two uni systems on the same browser would each require their own 2FA within 5 minutes. It's the webpage/system.

The 2.5 hours thing is an average of course (sometimes its 3 times in 5 minutes; other times it's once a week).

My problem seems to be that I have the audacity to log in to ten different university computers and ten different university systems each week (to do my teaching, supervision & research).
