Long on my to go to list, ever since I saw the creepy picture of it in the Reader's Digest folklore book as a kid. But I couldn't find it on a map. I think I even did a 'Google' search on my ancient search engine of choice 25 years ago but couldn't find it. So I'm quite jealous.

I've never been in the cave myself (bit low down for my poor bad back!). Of course, the cave isn't visible in my photo, it's just to the left. They say 'gop' comes from 'gawp' because of the views but I find that highly dubious myself!

The possibility this was a site sacred to the Celtic horned god is tempting, especially since the church is also a subject of the trope of an original location being interrupted by the mysterious removal of building stones. The same with nearby Corwen church, which has a standing stone set within it

Oh, ta! Yes, the Benson is about an inch (notice how old I am) shorter than those photographed.

I do have the Benson but it's on the 'special shelf' alongside James and Wakefield and Blackwood etc. Anyway, it's the WRONG SHAPE. It was bad enough that they began to make them red rather than black! Sheer anarchy. I must find out what I've missed, though.

The closing statistic makes this very interesting indeed. How much spookynatural stuff is still taking place out there? Lots of people I know have told me their experiences but only because they know I'll take what they say seriously and on trust. Were people more likely to be believed in the past?
