It’s being gaining popularity in the last couple of years. I’ve seen some really awful posts comparing St Patrick to Hitler and the holocaust. Just wholly inaccurate and it’s so frustrating that folk want to believe in a false victimhood rather than fighting the current issues in the world.

I am not trying to defend the Catholic church’s exploits, but pushing a false narrative of a pagan genocide on St Patrick’s Day does the community no favours either. Instead, we could focus our effort on the current genocides going on around the world.

That’s a helpful way of looking at the difference. But I’m seeing more and more people using the title witch and really doing what I would personally describe as manifesting. And I’m trying to work out whether that really matters or not

True.. and although we are seeing a bit of a rise in the popularity of folk witchcraft.. . A lot of that just feels hollow and aesthetic to me. And I say that doesn’t someone who uses that label!

I’ve previously genuinely felt like I had something unique to say and a way of saying it that reached people. Now I’m not so sure but I think that’s part of the flow of writing, life online etc. it’s very easy to become a social media occultist and write rather than practice

I saw a couple of YouTube videos about @thornthewitch.bsky.social talking about stepping away from “content creation” about witchcraft vs actually practicing witchcraft. I’ve certainly had an up-and-down relationship with witchy social media over the years and am currently feeling burnt out with it
