Wouldn't call it modern, but it's not that old either: Wakfu!! Custom choose what stats go up every level, choose what skills are or aren't equipped, and as of recently, it's free to change your stats around whenever!!! Heavily recommend at least looking into it, it's a tactics grid based MMORPG
