I agree it’s definitely gamified. It’s a fun learning game, but not like the best way to learn a language if gaming is not your thing. If my goal was to be fluent in Japanese I wouldn’t choose Duolingo to teach me, but if I wanted to kill time playing a game about language learning then duo could do

I didn’t mean you won’t learn anything about the language. Just that if you went only via Duolingo for learning something totally new would you become Fluent in that language, grammar, idioms, etc? I find Duolingo took some fun aspects of learning language and left the rest behind. Just my opinion:)
