This is Mobot mobot, an ocean sunfish (Mola mola) robot from our lab.

Here is a link to our paper in Bioinspiration and Biomimetics that discusses this robot: doi.org/10.1088/1748...

This is a video from our paper published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics today. We show that vortex shedding can be induced in the wake of a cylinder forced to rotate periodically at Reynolds numbers as low as Re=1 for higher rotation rates.

In our paper just published in “Computers in Biology and Medicine”, we explore the utility of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition in elucidating coronary flow dynamics in patient-specific arteries pre- (left in the sample video) and post- (right) stent placement.

This is an image from Umang Patel’s Gallery of Fluid Motion poster (gfm.aps.org). These are polymeric stresses in the wake of a flexibly-mounted cylinder placed in inertial-elastic flow. Viscoelasticity is increased in the left image.

Here is a clip of a video we submitted to the Gallery of Fluid Motion APS DFD 2024. We place free-to-move cylinders in the wake of a rigid cylinder to see how they re-organize themselves.
