The way ICE has weaponized its role absolutely isn’t necessary — but the agency does have a purpose. Its job is to enforce immigration court orders issued by a judge, not to profile people on the street or run their own version of stop-and-frisk. That’s not enforcement — that’s harassment.

These agencies are necessary — but they’re in desperate need of a full overhaul. Policies, training, oversight, staffing — all of it. The problem isn’t their existence, it’s how they’re being weaponized.
