Louisa Pesel (1870-1947) - embroider, collector and teacher. Responsible for founding the Broderers’ Guild in 1931, a project which would go on to make the incredible church kneelers for Winchester Cathedral.

Lady Gregory (1852-1932) playwright, folklorist, and Celtic revivalist, and she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre. Collected and translated several Irish myths for the first time into English including Cuchulain of Muirthemne.

Margaret Fay Shaw (1903-2004) - Photographer, classical pianist, folklorist and collector of the traditions and stories of South Uist. Margaret moved to the Hebrides in the late 1920s after retiring from her life as a concert pianist, she became completely immersed in the old ways.

Lois Blake (1890-1974) - Historian, Welsh dancing enthusiast and first president of the Welsh Folk Dance Society. Lois used fragments from archives to piece together Welsh folk dances which she the spent her lifetime teaching and sharing with children and adults across Wales.

Mary Neal (1860-1944) - Suffragist, Member of The Kindred of the Kibbo Kift and collector of English folk dance. Founder of Esperánce Morris which saw a drive to get working class factory girls reclaiming their heritage through morris dancing.

Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960) - writer, anthropologist, folklorist, and filmmaker. Author of Every Tongue Got to Confess, a collection of folktales gathered in the 1920s published in 2001 by @smithsonian amongst a number of other novels and non fiction titles.
