Calling someone by their name in the military isn't common. Sir and ma'am are used more than names, which you'd want to know the correct gender to get correct.

How else would you suggest remedying the unfortunate issue of having a gender ambiguous name to avoid being 'unprofessional'?

There are a lot of titles that aren't gendered. Especially in the federal government which is largely comprised of MILITARY PERSONNEL.

Military rank is not gender specific and replaces any use of Mr/Mrs/Ms.

See also, doctors.

Thankfully, I already have geography puzzles for my child that say Gulf of Mexico and I will make sure she knows that's what it's called.

Since teachers have to buy their own classroom supplies, I hope they never update their current maps.

Careful! Name changes are only 'appropriate' when it's a woman giving up her identity for a man 😅

Casey? Taylor? Jordan? Riley? All names that I know men AND women to have. And none of them are unprofessional.

Now EloNazi, he's a pro at ambiguous and unprofessional names for his children.

Some of us have ambiguous names and get tired of correcting people.
Sincerely, a woman constantly addressed as 'sir' before this was a standard practice.

Those of us with names that are gender ambiguous might disagree. It helps negate the awkward conversations for when people guess wrong.
