Don’t have to tell me twice (this is very much a ramble and makes little sense but you get the picture)
Why Flox Ex Machina means so much to me Okay so for reference this album got me through one of the worst times in my life so l am inherently biased but from the moment I heard this album in full for the first time I was hooked. There's such a broad range of genres and themes across the album with it all cumulating into forging your own path as an individual regardless of your past experiences. It's an album of discovery and understanding of the self with repeated imagery of starting from the beginning and working your own path to be freed of the "red strand" that binds you to fate. The title of the album itself is a play on the phrase "deus ex maching", a plot device where a seemingly unsolvable problem is solved through essentially random chance. Narratively the album builds on this. Taking the album cover at face value, it's the image of some sort of insect/flower hybrid that is slowly unfurling and transforming but hasn't fully yet. This is an idea built upon as the protagonist of the songs narratively struggle with love, passion, pain, regression, repression, anger, losing oneself and eventually revelation. I truly believe the album is a reflection of what it means to be human and the struggles we go through. A story of our own metamorphosis and growth from the fate that binds us. The final line of the album reflects this with「もう私は迷うわない」, "I will no longer lose my way". It's a resolution to the conflict of emotions and the state of being. Standing firm and whilst not fully formed, trying to live, trying to exist in a world that spites you so. It's a story of transformation and struggle and it will always deeply resonate with me.
