Hot take: I don’t think Sparkles/Sprinkles the Unicorn is what powered Carlos to a podium.

I think it was the good credit Carlos earned with the universe when he followed through on his promise to sport a silly unicorn sticker on his helmet simply because a little fan asked 🦄 ✨

Miffed at all the comments about Carlos getting a Williams podium before LH gets a F*rrari podium. Who cares? 2025 podium or not, Williams is the team Carlos has committed wholly to, his new home, his new family, his new objective. That joke of a horse team is utterly irrelevant to his success now.

No need for good luck if you can outsmart bad luck.

In a quali affected by weather and many red flags, Carlos’s P2 was every bit as much a triumph for the Williams strategy team and garage as it was a triumph on the track.

I believe Williams has what it takes to execute to the maximum tomorrow 💪

Since you asked: I removed you from the starter pack because you publicly used the word “r*tard” as a slur to describe other fans’ intelligence. Multiple times.

Not joking when I say that Carlos’s unflinching optimism affects me so deeply that it bleeds into other aspects of my life. Living is more enjoyable when you’re excited about what comes next.

Looking dry (if not a little overcast) for Sprint quali and the Sprint race, then potentially a wet Grand Prix. Will all depend on the timing of the expected summer storms.

Someone please PLEASE make sure Williams knows it is not actually C3-C2-C1 this weekend

Good riddance to C5s and C6s for this weekend at Silverstone. The FW47 does not seem to be in a happy place with those compounds.

“As an athlete you always go through better times, difficult times. The sport has told me that this can change quickly.”

Carlos saying “pendulums always swing back,” only in different words 💙

Williams being the slowest of all 10 teams on the straights shows how much the car performance was limited by their engine issues in Canada. The one thing Williams can usually cash in on even when all else fails is being fast on the straights.

Looking at the schedule in Canada, it seems FP1 and FP3 will be most representative of track conditions for the race, while FP2 will be the best session to evaluate qualifying (as usual).

This message from Carlos’s old maths teacher Mr. Valbuena has me in real tears. It’s such a perfect reminder of who Carlos Sainz is at his core. I haven’t felt this emotional or proud of him outside of a race win.

“Your effort and discipline will take you as far as you want to go.” 💙✨

And their race pace simulation is even more optimistic for Williams. I get most of the midfield being too close to call, but how is Williams supposed to be P5 and two tenths clear of the rest?
May 30, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I’ve just seen the F1/FOM pace simulations. I’m confused.

These simulations are usually more accurate than not because unlike us at home, they have access to information about fuel loads, engine modes (I think), and other details.

So why is Williams above Alpine and Sauber on qualifying pace?

And the love = speed effect isn’t even just Carlos vs. Alex at that section. Grada CS55 is at T12, and the T10 (exit) to T13 sequence is one of the few places on the track where Carlos is faster than Lando!

Carlos Sainz after #FP2:

🇪🇸It was tough out there, but we expected it. These are not the best corners for our car and right from FP1 I felt how tricky it was. The setup changes seemed to go well, but we still haven’t found enough lap time. We'll try to take a step for tomorrow!

It’s kind of precious that Carlos (blue) becomes an absolute monster when he hits T10, which happens to be the moment his home grandstand comes into view 💙

RUS vs. SAI on mediums. Looks like FW47's main weak point was the medium speed T4-T5. That said, SAI gained a tenth back in medium speed T10-T12, but I think that's down to him achieving a lower min. speed in T10 and getting a good exit.
May 30, 2025 at 1:06 PM
First I thought there was nothing to glean from SAI's FP2 due to a split run plan, but Haas had the same split run plan: SAI/BEA went S-M and ALB/OCO went M-S.

There was a shockingly precise inverse relationship in S vs M times on the two run plans! The soft was the worse tire on a green track.

Carlos spent the least amount of time in the pits out of any driver in Imola despite having one of the slowest pit stops. Pit lane dynamics are so interesting to me.
