I feel like I say this a lot, but what's amazing is that the animal has no idea that it's so perfectly camouflaged. The undirected process of evolution works as a pretty amazing optimization algorithm.

Not great news for the geckos that don't make the 'cut', but hey, birds gotta eat.
Mossy leaf-tailed gecko, Uroplatus sikorae, Madagascar. These lizards have some of the most amazing camouflage in nature. I especially love the fractal fringing on the bottom jaw, feet, and body, which helps break up the lizard's outline. 🦎🌿 #herps
