My first programming was by manually punching out each rectangle on pre- stamped cards which were then sent away to be run on some computer somewhere not at my school.

Then later, doing seismic survey work and ending up writing code for large scale video manipulation.

So yes, very relatable.

I remember once someone calculating the electrical efficiency of the BBC TV centre based on a power consumption of about 4MW and an output of 2 x (BBC1 & BBC2) 1V into a 75ohm load (the standard TV signal distribution level).

I found the info all very confusing, with poor wording that had ambiguities.
After a long phone call, where the other end was initially unsure too, I finally discovered what counted.
They have been kicking the implementation date down the road for years, so let those who have to be guinea pigs.

I wish people would stop conflating LLM AI with AI. I use non LLM AI and find it very useful. ATM I find LLM AI a bit like early days OCR. I spend so much time checking its output that it would have been easier to do it by hand in the first place. I realise YMMV but that is my experience.
