Reformed, husband, father, and DM. I like my music heavy, bourbon neat, and my coffee black. I’m just getting started writing ttrpg content! Coming soon!
I hear a lot in the #ttrpg scene that you shouldn’t say “no” as the GM and that you should say “yes, and…” or “yes, but…” I get the sentiment but I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can say “no.” It is the GM’s job to referee the rules. And sometimes that means saying no. #dnd #rpg

What if trap detection wasn’t based on passive perception or perception checks? How would it work if perception was taken out of the game?

Prep situations not stories. Prep NPCs, their motivations, goals, and conflicts. Then drop the PCs in the middle of it. Give them a hook and let their decisions create the story. If you truly understand the motivations of the NPCs, you can improv how they react to the PCs decisions. Emergent story.

Which platforms should I be on to get the greatest reach? I was thinking a landing page website, itch.io, Substack for blog/email newsletter, and here for social? Any other suggestions?

Well let’s kick this thing off I guess. I’m working on writing an rpg for my group but may make it available for others to playtest. I figured I needed a place to log development. Is it too late to start fresh in the indie ttrpg scene?
