With ‘Meat Is Murder,’ the Smiths decided to infuse their sophomore album with more blatant politics than nuanced portrayals of everyday post-war British life.

I wrote about ‘Meat Is Murder,’ the album that converted me (and so many others) to vegetarianism.
Meat Is Murder’s genius was that it drew parallels between everyday horrors and political ones, and made politics accessible and easy to understand—particularly a politics of compassion.
