Question: Would you say another big one is when dismissive remarks of your achievements being undeserved based on you being female are thrown your way? Why would such a strike from a woman be so symbolically meaningful when done for reasons such as these? Oriane's answer: She nods. "Aye, my friend, that would be another case, though I do not stoop to violence in such cases save if the offense is severe. 'You're just a woman, what do you know' is far more effectively dealt with by making it abundantly and viscerally clear what I know." She looks thoughtful at the second part of the question. "Some say a strike to the family jewels is symbolic of a strike against their masculinity, while for me, I see it as correcting an overabundance of testosterone that clearly has a man believe his balls are bigger and more brass than mine."

Oriane was a little freckly, fair skinned, emerald-eyed, red-headed elezen girl of ten summers when her life changed forever. Her father had tried to insist that she stay home and work on boring embroidery, but he had been called away for work again, so she took the opportunity to sneak up to Saint Valeroyant's Forum to play with the children who liked to congregate there. Of all the many squares in the Holy See, Saint Valeroyant's was well known to be the place where children of all classes mingled, playing near the doors of the Congregation of our Knights Most Heavenly. Most of these children would find themselves among those hallowed halls at one point or another, so most parents did not forbid the mingled play, seeing it as an opportunity to begin to build the bonds that would be tested in the fires of the Dravanian War. On this particular day, Oriane was playing Hoopstick with some of the boys when she spotted a young boy being picked on by a bunch of noble boys. He had bluish silver hair, eyes the color of the sky at dusk, and appeared to be a middle-class boy, probably the son of a merchant. He was a couple years her senior it seemed, but he was cornered by three noble boys, taunting and jeering. Their ringleader was a boy maybe a year older, but dressed in a House Fortemps doublet. Furious that anyone would break Saint Val's Truce, she abandoned her game and charged over, inserting herself between the silver-haired boy and the nobles. “What do you think you're doing? Have you no respect for the Truce?” The dark haired Fortemps boy sneered. “Mind your own business, waif. I have every right to educate a Bastard.” Oriane took two steps forward and punched the boy. “Not on my watch, Artoirel de Fortemps. Don't think I won't give ye a black eye to match that fat lip o’ yers, too, if'n you don't back down!” “Why you little bi…” Just then, Oriane found herself pushed behind the silver-haired boy. “Leave her be, Art, or I'll tell Father you struck a girl.” Oriane blinked… The boy had said the word Father as though they shared the same one. Then, it clicked… He must be Haurchefant, the Count de Fortemps’ rumored bastard second son. Artoirel, however, seemed cowed by the threat and turned away with huff, his friends trailing after. Haurchefant turned to her with a smile despite his purpling lip. “A Lady should not need to protect a knight.” Oriane grinned. “Well, ye ain't a knight yet, so I'll intervene until ye are.” Haurchefant smiled broadly. “Just you wait, I'll become a knight and be able to protect you instead.” He stepped forward and lifted her hand to place a kiss on her knuckles. “I thank you for your pains, though, dear Lady…” Oriane blushed. “O-o-oriane…and I'm no Lady, Lord Haurchefant. I'm just a common girl from the Brume.” Haurchefant smiled winsomely. “Well, a female knight is a Lady and you have a Knight's heart, Lady Oriane.” On that day, in that moment, gazing into those gentle blue eyes, she knew she would become a knight, if only to stand at his side.

Having given her own oath alongside the leaders of the various orders, it now falls to Oriane as the Knight Captain of the Dragoons to lead the knights under her command to give their own oaths. "Come, my brothers, and let us leave none doubting the loyalty of the Dragoons!"
